"I have never painted a self-portrait yet all of my paintings reveal exactly who I am, where I’ve come from and who I strive to be.
In my life I’ve never really been interested in the aesthetic of things. I won’t notice the color of a room, or what you were wearing when I ran into you, but I will always notice the energy of a space and the unspoken emotions you were holding in that space. My focus is on producing something that expresses and communicates those emotions, peeling back the layers and revealing something that is not so obvious on the surface. I often include words in my paintings. Lettering was the only art form I was formally taught and I use it to anchor my work and make my message more broadly heard and recognized."
